This course covers the syllabus of Pharmaceutics II of Second year Diploma in Pharmacy as prescribed by Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi & implemented by Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Mumbai. The course is divided into 12 chapters & further divided into modules. This course covers principles involved in compounding & dispensing of dosage forms as given in the prescription. 

Course Outcomes:

CO1: Review the prescription for errors, incompatibilities and translate various Latin terms.

CO2: Solve the calculations involving percentage strength, dilutions, dose, isotonicity adjustment, proof spirit and displacement value using conversions of weights and measures.

CO3: Formulate and evaluate various dosage forms using suitable excipients, methods and techniques. The dosage forms include powders, monophasic liquids, suspensions, emulsions, ointments, pastes, jellies, suppositories, pessaries, dental and cosmetic preparations, sterile dosage forms and ophthalmic products.

CO4: Choose suitable packaging materials and dispense dosage forms after proper packaging and labeling.

CO5: Counsel the patients regarding dose, route and time of administration, precautions to be taken during administration, method of proper use and storage conditions.

Course Outcomes: 

The students should be able to:

  1. Acquire the knowledge and understanding of nomenclature of Pharmaceutical organic compounds with particular reference to heterocyclic system.
  2. Classify various Pharmaceutical organic compounds.
  3. Outline the chemical structure of various Pharmaceutical organic compounds with their numbering, nomenclature, properties and uses.
  4. Recall various dosage forms of different Pharmaceutical organic compounds with their brand names & storage conditions.
  5. Choose the Pharmaceutical organic compounds used in treating various diseases.


Course outcome

After completion of this course students will able to:

  1. Explain various principles involved in general pharmacology

  2. Classify various pharmacological agents acting on disorders and /or diseases affecting various systems of human body.

  3. Discuss the mechanism of action and pharmacological actions of drugs onvarious systems of human body.

  4. Describe Clinical uses, dose, adverse effects, indications, contraindications and drug interactions of drugs acting on various systems of human body.

  5. Evaluate the effect of drugs on isolated preparations of different experimental animals using simulated software.

  6. Perform the experiment of screening with its evaluation of drugs on experimental animals using simulated software.


The course Pharmaceutical jurisprudence for the pharmacy students is designed to introduce them to basic element of legal system, which is pertinent to conducting their business and practicing the profession.The laws related to Pharmacy are express by statutes, judicial decisions or regulation of administrative bodies which are discussed as pharmaceutical legislation.

Course Outcomes

The students should be able to:

1. Discuss the role of industry and activities revolved around it.

2. Recall the forms of business organisation and channels of distribution.

3. Describe Drug House management and all activities related to it such as inventory control sale promotion, recruitment, training, evaluation and compensation of pharmacists.

 4. Record services and function of bank, financial planning and sources of finance.

 5. Explain Accountancy and elaborate the knowledge of book keeping, financial statements and budgeting.

1.      Describe the role of hospital, hospital pharmacy and pharmacist in providing health care services and there organizational structure.

2.      Process prescriptions, using a variety of drug distribution methods.

3.      Provide correct advice on drug use, adverse drug reaction and drug-drug, herb-drug reaction.

4.      Identify roles and responsibilities of pharmacist in clinical pharmacy.

5.      Explain various methods of sterilization and Choose suitable methods.

Students will able to

1.      Prepare and submit various intravenous infusion solutions.

2.      Identification of surgical instruments supplies and sterilizes them.

3.      Evaluate surgical cotton and ribbon.
